This is the new all-electric Mercedes GLB, but it’ll come as a hybrid too

Mercedes has unveiled the new all electric GLB, marking the next major step in the brand’s push toward a fully electrified SUV lineup. The updated model blends the familiar boxy design of the GLB with a modern EV powertrain, offering a family friendly electric option that fits between the EQA and EQB. Mercedes has also confirmed that a hybrid version will join the range, giving buyers two electrified routes depending on their lifestyle and driving needs.

The all electric GLB features a redesigned interior and refreshed exterior elements, including updated headlights, new trim detailing and an improved digital cockpit. Mercedes has focused heavily on efficiency upgrades, meaning drivers can expect longer range, faster charging and better battery management compared to previous compact EV entries from the brand. Early reports indicate that the new GLB targets competitive range figures to match other midsize electric SUVs in Europe.

Inside the cabin, the model includes the latest MBUX infotainment system, advanced driver assistance features and added storage options to enhance practicality. The three row seating configuration remains available, making the electric GLB one of the few EVs in its class to offer seven seat capability. Mercedes says it designed the interior with young families and urban commuters in mind, aiming for a balance of tech, comfort and usable space.

Meanwhile, the upcoming hybrid version is being developed for buyers who want improved fuel efficiency without fully committing to an EV. This model is expected to feature Mercedes’ newest plug in hybrid technology, offering electric only driving for daily city use while retaining internal combustion power for longer trips. As European regulations tighten, plug in hybrids continue to play a key role in helping buyers transition to cleaner mobility.

Mercedes plans to launch both versions as part of its broader electrification roadmap ahead of 2030. The automaker is currently expanding its EV lineup across most segments, from compact crossovers to luxury sedans and large SUVs. The GLB’s electrified update is seen as a strategic move, targeting one of Europe’s most competitive categories with a model that combines versatility and sustainable performance.

Market analysts expect strong interest when the new GLB reaches showrooms, particularly from customers seeking a practical EV without sacrificing everyday usability. The addition of a hybrid variant also widens the appeal, ensuring Mercedes can reach drivers at different stages of their transition to electric mobility.

As the automotive industry accelerates toward electrification, Mercedes continues to position itself among the leading brands shaping Europe’s next generation of family SUVs. The new GLB’s electric and hybrid options will play a central role in that strategy when they go on sale.
